Mobile Chemotherapy Unit
The short term objective of this project is to complete fundraising and procure
- A Mobile Mammogram Van for use in outreach programmes to screen the rural disadvantaged poor for breast cancer
- A High Resolution Ultra Sound Machine that detect breast cancer in women between the ages of 25 and 40 years, and
- To equip the screening centre with Mammography equipment.
by the end of December, 2009.
Description of The Chemotherapy Van
The chemotherapy van is essentially an office container mounted on a lorry (truck) chassis. The van will be engineered for travelling on classes of roads from tarmac to all grades of murram without damage to the fitted requisite diagnostic equipment like mammography, (like the one shown on the right) x-rays and furnished for testing for breast cancer and treatment as the mobile clinic.
The van will travel on ‘passenger/ Cargo' ferries currently traversing islands and River Nile for outreach breast cancer screening programmes of the rural poor domiciled on numerous islands in Lake Victoria and West Nile Districts.
